It was 40 years ago today. A little rock n’ roll musical written by out-of-work actor, Richard O’Brien, premiered at the 63-seat theatre, The Royal Court Theatre upstairs. Young actors Tim Curry, Julie Covington, Chris Malcom, Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Rayner Bourton, Nell Campbell & Paddy O’Hagan made up the original cast. 15 months later, filming began for the film version of the hit musical which would become the longest running theatrical release of all time and the greatest and most well known cult film in history.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Loads of reasons to love this film but let’s just firstly address the fact that on paper Michel Gondry should be an amazing film maker and I should love everything he does, in fact I love ESOTSM but not much else from his catalogue and in my defence I say these four words to you - The Science Of Sleep.

But seriously, this film, given it’s jumbled up order has the potential to be a real mess but thanks to Gondry and the cast anchoring a perfectly balanced depth of emotion right at the heart of the film it avoids this tragic fate.

In ESOTSM for once, I find Winslet to be pretty captivating and not just because of Clementine’s ever changing hair colour, Carrey is low key, poignant, understated and effortless….I am a huge non fan of the gurning slapstick Carrey but love him in this LOVE LOVE LOVE and lets face it what girl hasn’t wished some boy would say “I think your name’s magical” to them…ok ok I know too much to ask, after all my name only has a Z where there should be a S, borrrrrring. But a girl can dream, right?

Oh I so know what you mean - after I fell in love with ESOTSM I was all “oh I love Michel Gondry, the man is a genius”, and then… yeah. The Science of Sleep. Just… no.

We hear about all the partying and stuff but in 2008, one of the soldiers in his battalion was being threatened by 6 other soldiers from another outfit for being openly gay. The soldier escaped and went back to duty when Harry saw him and demanded to know what happened and then was like “Right well I’m going to sort this out” and full on stomped over to the guys and threw a fit at them and solved the problem and those guys never bothered the soldier again and he did it all without violence.

On the one hand, Jennifer Lawrence is a thin woman, and I definitely don’t think she should be given this platform as the spokesperson for people that are not skinny.

But then at the same time if she sees herself as being unskinny/a bit chubs then who am I to question that?

Idk. Maybe she doesn’t even want to be seen as this unskinny beacon. Who knows.
